Are You Planning a Trip to Spain or Europe? Find Out If You Need a Visa!
If you are planning a trip to Spain or any other European country—whether for tourism, business, or any other reason—one of the first questions you should ask yourself is: Do I need a visa? The European Union has a list of countries whose citizens can enter without applying for a visa beforehand. At Galilea Abogados, we help you determine if you’re on the list and what requirements you need to meet!

What Does It Mean to Be Visa-Exempt?
If you are a citizen of a visa-exempt country, you can enter the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a 180-day period without needing a visa. This applies mainly to travel for tourism, business, or family visits. However, it does not grant you the right to work or reside permanently in these countries.
List of Visa-Exempt Countries for the European Union
Citizens of the following countries can travel to the EU without a visa:
🌎 Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
🌎 North America: Canada and the United States.
🌏 Asia: Japan, South Korea, Israel, Malaysia, and Singapore.
🌏 Oceania: Australia and New Zealand.
🌍 Other Countries and Territories: Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican City.
Visa Exemption and Brexit: The Case of the United Kingdom
After Brexit, British citizens are also exempt from visa requirements for short trips to the European Union. However, visa reciprocity is expected, meaning that the UK must offer the same treatment to EU citizens.
It is important to note that this list is subject to change and may vary depending on international agreements.
⚠️ Important! ETIAS: A New Requirement for Traveling to Europe
Starting in mid-2025, citizens of visa-exempt countries will need to obtain an electronic travel authorization called ETIAS before entering the European Union. This system aims to improve security and migration control across the European bloc.
